The notion never leaves me, no leisure for a restless heart.

Nice lull around here, eh. Couple things - obviously the last post put a damper on my desire to post albums here. I've also been doing a lot of planning for a trip I'm going on next week to North Carolina to visit my best friend record an album with Mitch Easter at his studio in Kernersville. Needless to say I'm extreeeemely psyched. Explains the Mitch Easter postings of late, yes? Also my PC's harddrive has been fucked for about a month, I've just been too lazy to take it to the computer guys and get it fixed, so it's been harder to do a lot of uploading and raring on my laptop.

But anyway, just about every season, I like to compile a mix CD of songs I'm digging at the moment to listen to in my car. This spring so far has been a mixture of comforting (Velvet Crush and acoustic Coheed for example) and new music (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amplifico) - a lot of my guilty pleasures show through on this one. I feel like posting this mix here, maybe it'll get me back into posting in general. Here's hoping these songs go as nicely with your spring as they do mine :)

Some kind of tree/bush.

So.

I received one of these in my inbox today.

Blogger has been notified, according to the terms of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), that certain content in your blog infringes upon the copyrights of others. The URL(s) of the allegedly infringing post(s) may be found at the end of this message.

The notice that we received from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and the record companies it represents, with any personally identifying information removed, will be posted online by a service called Chilling Effects at http://www.chillingeffects.org
We do this in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Please note that it may take Chilling Effects up to several weeks to post the notice online at the link provided.

The IFPI is a trade association that represents over 1,400 major and independent record companies in the US and internationally who create, manufacture and distribute sound recordings (the "IFPI Represented Companies").

I realize this happens to many, many blogs these days. Pretty much anyone that posts any type of music. Can I just say that deleting these links won't do a damn thing? I truly believe that the record industry knows that people can still get any music they want through torrents. Haha. It's just all pretty ridiculous to me. If anyone has advice, leave a comment. I really don't want to go private. The whole point of this blog was to help deliver music to people everywhere. The sad part is, apparently you can get these notices even if you have recieved permission from the artists themselves to post. In fact, a few artists I've posted here have contacted me to thank me for posting their music. So fuck you DMCA.

What choice do I have? Give up and give in? Do all the things that the broken people do?

Ken Stringfellow, possibly better known as part of The Posies, is a very underrated songwriter in his own right. This is pretty close to a near-perfect pop-rock album in my opinion. Gentle melodies and lovely vocals put Stringfellow's voice at center attention and producer Mitch Easter work together to create a versatile yet cohesive album.

On afternoons, in troubled dreams, to lose a love that finders keep.

Ozark Henry is a musician from Belgium who makes some really nice electronic and piano-inspired rock music. I'd never heard of him until a friend sent the track "Rescue" a few weeks ago. If you like Coldplay with a little more edge, try this album out.

Everybody looks, not everybody finds.

Another Mitch Easter-produced goodie, Baskervilles are a band from New York City that make some really fun rock. This album is actually a compilation of 14 singles they released over the course of 14 months on the web after a deal fell through while in the process of making an EP. Super guitars, great bass lines, sweet vocal harmonies, and even some horns thrown in make this a really interesting album to listen to.

...and i'll never forget how the music stopped or the feel of your breath

Considering how into "emo" I am, it's a bit surprising I didn't find out about this band until recently. The Anniversary reminds me a bit of The Rentals with the back and forth male-female vocals, and catchy melodies. If you're at all a fan of The Get Up Kids, Sunny Day Real Estate or The Rentals/Weezer, I highly recommend this. Tunes to definitely check out: "The D In Detroit," "Till We Earned a Holiday," and "Outro in No Minor."

Weird summer, I don't know who I am... I've been sleeping again.

I have been listening to a lot of 90's "power pop" lately - it's fun, catchy, and easy to listen to. This album is by a band called Velvet Crush and was produced by Mitch Easter - who also produced R.E.M., Pavement, Ken Stringfellow of The Posies, and lots more. I will definitely be posting more Mitch Easter-produced albums in the future... but this one is perfect to start off with.
